After Rio Celeste we stayed at a cheap hostel in Liberia. Hotel Guanacaste. It wasn't fancy but only $18! Not gross and very close to the bus station.
We had one last night of laughs with Miguel which included a whole lot of disco.
In the morning we made our way to Ometepe. First a bus ride to la frontera (the border), followed by a meltdown due to a serious need for food, followed by another bus ride, then a bicycle ride, a ferry and finally a taxi to Los Ramos.
There are two volcanoes on Isla Ometepe. Volcan Concepcion & Volcan Maderas.
On day one we decided to take it easy and see the waterfall (Cascada San Ramon) and the swimming hole (Ojo de Agus).
The waterfall was beautiful. However the over one hour hike up to it was enough to make us reconsider trying the 4 hour hike up to Maderas or the 5 hour hike up to Concepcion in the sweltering heat as there would still be the return trip down the volcano.
It reminded me of my 9 hour hike (4.5hrs each way) to the top of the volcano with my friend Merilee in St. Vincent and the Grenadines. As rewarding as it was I did not want to risk having to carry
Hailey back down the mountain in a diabetic coma.

Check out the moss growing on the hydro wires!

The long and arduous path.
Ojo de Agua was a refreshing break after a long morning of hiking.
